This book is a synthesis of two five-year theses in the Faculty of Engineer - Architecture EU of the University of L'Aquila, as a result of extensive and intensive research work carried out in collaboration between the Department of Civil Engineer, Architecture and Environment (DICEAA) and the Research Center of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of La Sapienza of Rome (CRITEVAT). Considering the size and complexity of the architectural organism, it was necessary to collaborate with the two authors who set a path of absolute rigor on the theoretical-methodological setting. The subject of the thesis is the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate, designed by Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola (1507-1573), which is part of the complex of San Antonio hospital in Rieti, which was already in the first half of the 14th Century, and located on the route of the ancient Roman walls. Vignola, besides being known as a designer, was also a famous treatiser and the work also includes the study of his treatise "The Rule of the Five Orders of Architecture" of 1562, in which he has defined proportional relations for architectural orders. The text proposes a timely historical-critical analysis with an express judgment of value both with regard to the historical instance and the aesthetic instance. In order to ensure the accuracy of the analysis, we have been entrusted with the most modern instrumental tracking technologies in continuity with a culture of relief as an indispensable moment of knowledge. Finally, a project of restoration is planned, attentive to every aspect of architectural reality and respectful of the authenticity of the historical testimony.
